The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chattra Parishad (AJYCP) has observed a three-hour sit-in demonstration across the state in protest against the construction of Lower Subansiri Hydro-Electric Power project.
The AJYCP has observed the protest against big dam and also demanded to come out with a permanent solution for flood and erosion problem.
The Golaghat unit of AJYCP has protested in front of the Deputy Commissioners office in Golaghat. The organization said that they won’t accept construction of the big dam in any circumstances.
The organization has staged protest in Jorhat, Mangaldoi, Mushalpur, Nagaon, Tezpur and Sivasagar. The AJYCP has opposed the memorandum of agreement (MoA) signed between the Assam Government and NHPC recently for the implementation of Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Project.
General Secretary of AJYCP, Palash Changmai said that the MoA is a document for deceiving the people of Assam. Earlier, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also opposed the big dam saying that they will not allow to construct the lower subansir hydro electric power project but now the state BJP government has signed the MoA with NHPC for the implementation of the same.
He said that they will not allow to construct the big dam which will bring a threat to the people of Assam and therefore they have started the agitation from today.
