Assam Pradesh Congress SC Cell on Wednesday sent a letter to Congress high-command demanding cancellation of candidature of Karimganj LS ticket contender Swarup Das alleging he is ineligible to contest as Swarup is not a bona fide SC person.
In the letter, Dr Ramananda Das (Chairman of APCC SC dept) asked AICC to take rigid action regarding Karimganj Lok Sabha seat in the interest of Congress party and also SC community of Assam.
"Karimganj Lok Sabha seat in Assam is a reserve SC seat. The candidate Swarup Das who has got the Congress ticket is not a bona fide SC person. It is only in 2007 he procured the SC Certificate. The Certificate was issued without verification and is false. Proper enquiry in DC's establishment will reveal that while issuing the certificate proper enquiry was not conducted." said Ramananda Das.
"During his education and working years he has always stated that he is a general candidate. It is only in 2007 he procured the SC Certificate. Announcement of his candidature has created great resentment among dalit community in Assam. We will be genuinely happy to support a genuine SC candidate." Das added.
