Syama Prasad Mukherjee saved Assam from Pakistan: Ram Madhav

BJP’s national general secretary Ram Madhav on Friday said that Syama Prasad Mukherjee had saved Assam from being a part of Pakistan during partition.

“Assam was a group-C state and was supposed to be a part of East Pakistan during partition but Dr Mukherjee along with Gopinath Bardoloi saved it,” said Madhav, while attending the 81st birth anniversary celebration of former BJP MLA late Bimolangshu Roy in Silchar.

Madhav further said that no genuine Bengali will be deprived even if their names do not feature in the final NRC list. He also said that it was Mukherjee, who divided Pakistan by saving Assam. “Most persecuted Hindu Bengalis took shelter in Barak Valley and the people of Barak have followed the ideology of BJP since its beginning,” said the BJP general secretary.

He blamed previous governments for anomalies in the NRC. “As we are dealing with a much-delayed project, some anomalies are natural. But our government is committed to protecting all the genuine Indians along with persecuted Hindus who came to India till December 31, 2014,” said Madhav.

“We have quashed Article 370 for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and now we would pass the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, soon for all of you, who had suffered a lot due to partition,” he added.
