Again, Sprinter Hima Das has come to limelight in Regional and National media. But, this time the reason is something different as the reason is apart from her sports performance.
This time, Hima shines for playing Nagara and enthralling audience with singing hari naam.
On Monday night, India’s new track and field sensation Hima Das was seen playing Assamese traditional folk instruments at her house at Kandhulimari of Dhing in Nagaon district.

After which, Senior lawyer and Assam Cricket Association (ACA) President Nilay Dutta on Tuesday tweeted on the Nagara playing video that “Has she given up on the dreams of a medal in next Olympics? It’s hardly 20 months away. And she has miles to go for competing in the heats.”
After exceptional performance in Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta, Hima came back to Guwahati on September 7. A swarm of people came to airport to extend their heartwarming welcome to Das for her achievement. Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal also arrived at the airport to welcome Hima.
A special track designed red carpet was waiting for her arrival at the airport.
Recently, Arjuna award winner, former athlete Bhogeswar Baruah while acknowledging that times have changed now, urged authorities to take good care of sprinter Hima Das to prepare her for the Olympics in 2020.
He urged the government to have only a day for her felicitation after she arrives and thereafter let her focus on the job ahead.
It should be mentioned that Hima will be provided “end-to-end” support towards her preparation for Tokyo Olympics under TOP Scheme. She was supposed to be funded by the government only until the upcoming event.
Everyone holds high expectations for Hima. Even, on Monday, Hima has been nominated for Arjuna Awards 2018. She will be the 5th from Assam to get the award.
She should focus on what’s happening right now—not on the success or failure as it’s not time to celebrate victory, it’s over. Hima has already got many felicitations in national, state and regional levels. She needs more to prepare herself for 2020 Olympics. Now she should target for Tokyo Olympics 2020.
Well-wisher of Hima along with Zubeen Garg also said Hima to concentrate on playing or staying committed to her match strategy.
Hima’s current coaching staff should be brought to National Institute of Sports where her grooming can start keeping in mind the larger goals ahead – said sports personalities of Assam.
