Tensed situation prevails at Jamuguri Tea Estate in Golaghat as the tea workers staged protest under the aegis of All Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association against the state government’s decision of reducing the puja bonus from 20 percent to 8.33 percent.
The tea workers staged protest demanding 20% bonus, to release their salaries and to provide rations to the workers. The labourers were seen aggressively protesting in front of the office of the tea estate.
On the one hand, the workers are still uncertain of getting their desired bonus ahead of the Durga Puja and on the other, they have also not received their salaries and ration.
Although the tea garden authorities have assured them of fulfilling their demands, the workers have asked them to fulfill their demands immediately or else they will stage a massive protest.
On the other hand, the tea workers in Charaideo tea estate have also staged protests demanding 20% bonus. They also expressed anger on being provided with 12% bonus to them ahead of the Durga Puja.
The protestors also expressed anger over the decision of the government and garden authorities to provide the 4% bonus before Kali Puja.
