Tirong Aboh Murder: NSCN (IM) ‘Major’ Arrested
Army, Assam Rifles and Assam Police, in a joint operation, arrested an NSCN (IM) commander Major Anok Wangsa who is believed to be involved in the murder of Arunachal Pradesh MLA Tirong Aboh on May 21 earlier this year.
Army, in a statement, said, “A major breakthrough in the conduct of a highly successful surgical operation resulting in the apprehension of the NSCN-IM area commander of Longding-Charaideo-Mon region has been carried out. Based on specific information, a joint operation of Indian Army, Assam Rifles and Assam Police was carried out on Sunday, resulting in the apprehension of Self Styled Major Anok Wangsa, Area Commander of NSCN-IM.”
The statement further said that the operation was launched in the early hours of Sunday.
The joint team conducted a search of a designated area and laying of ambushes on suspected routes to intercept the movement of the cadre.
“At around, 3.30 am one of the teams intercepted a vehicle which was moving on the Namtola – Jampan Axis and immediately identified and apprehended the individual. The search of the vehicle yielded concealed weapons and ammunition,” the statement added.
According to Army, Wangsa confirmed that he had hidden more weapons, ammunition, and warlike stores in his house located near Assam – Nagaland border.
The teams then carried out a detailed search of his house which resulted in the recovery of a large cache of arms, ammunition, and warlike stores which included one AK-56 Rifle, many pistols and more than Rupees five Lakh in cash.
“Apprehension of this individual has been greatly welcomed by the locals of districts of Mon (Nagaland), Longding (Arunachal Pradesh) and Charaideo (Assam),” the Army stated.
