TMC removes ‘Congress’ from its name

Mamata Banerjee-led TMC has done away with the term 'Congress' from its logo. The move comes after twenty one years of officially separating from the national party.

The new logo comprises of Trinamool written in green with twin flowers and blue background.

Having difference in opinions Trinamool parted ways with Congress back in 1998 and formed the erstwhile Trinamool Congress.

Speaking to news agency PTI, Mamata said, "TMC is called Trinamool and after 21 years, it was time for change".

It may be noted that despite the change in name of the party, it will remain registered with the Election Commission as Trinamool Congress. The term has also been cut off from party banners, posters and all communication material.
