TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee In Tripura For Important Rally

Trinamool Congress (TMC) National General Secretary, Abhishek Banerjee is in Tripura for a rally at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan. He landed on Sunday at around 12pm. The party is on the offensive against the BJP government led by Biplab Deb in Tripura.

Sushmita Dev, Rajya Sabha member form West Bengal took to Twitter to announce Mr. Banerjee's arrival. The TMC has launched an offence against the BJP in Tripura, with the aim to contest for the 2023 assembly elections. Leader Sushmita Dev has been campaigning in Tripura. The party has alleged that the Biplab Deb led BJP did not fulfil the promises made to the people of Tripura.

The BJP has proclaimed a 'double engine' approach in Tripura claiming that the people would benefit from BJP at both state and centre. TMC though, has rebuffed it on social media, claiming that the "double engine" government has failed the people of Tripura.

In a series of posts on social networking site Koo, TMC have cited the unemployment figures of 15.6 percent, higher than the national average of 8.3 per cent in Tripura. They also called out the promise of setting up a blood bank at every subdivision, pointing out that only 10 of the 23 subdivisions have a blood bank. They have also called out the poor state of education sector in the state.

Having established itself in West Bengal, TMC is expanding in the country.

Former Lok Sabha MP from Silchar, Congress's Sushmita Dev joined Trinamool last month. TMC then nominated her to Rajya Sabha which she won unopposed. According to her, TMC will get a readymade platform due to the incompetence of the BJP government in the state.

General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who arrived in Tripura today, had to face a lot of trouble. The party alleged foul play at Bipleb Deb led BJP government, claiming on social media that he has repeatedly used state machinery to "threaten us, attack us & silence us".

The High Court of Tripura came to the rescue though and gave permission to TMC to hold their rally in front of the Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan (Tagore Centenary Hall), on Sunday. The local police had earlier cancelled it. TMC have given an undertaking that there will not be a gathering of more than 500. They have also promised that there will be no such gathering in any other place.

Leader Sushmita Dev thanked the court on Twitter saying, "I thank the Honble High court of Tripura for allowing us to hold the meeting of @abhishekaitc with restrictions of upto a certain number of people only @at the same venue. The police has been acting so arbitrarily & this is a moral victory. Thank the supporters of @AITC4Tripura".

Mr. Banerjee will be the key speaker in the rally in Tripura. It is seen as important as TMC look to get a stronghold in the state.
