Tokay Geckos rescued from Barpeta


Seven numbers of Tokay Gecko which is known as ‘Keko Xaap’ in Assamese was rescued on Tuesday night from Howly in Barpeta district of Assam.

Police arrested two persons including a woman named Jiarul Islam of Kharisala village and Amina Khatun of Kolgachia. Police informed that several others are absconding.

Police also rescued one Alto car with number AS-01DX-6365.

The Tokay Geckos are a type of Asian lizards protected under Schedule IV of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 characterized by orange spots on the skin and a shrill croak. Possession of and trading in Tokay geckos are banned in the country and violation of the law is punishable by a jail term for up to three years.
