A top NSCN (K) militant was killed in an encounter in Sanglang area of Arunachal Pradesh border on Saturday night. The militant was identified as NSCN (K) leader Arkam Seng.
It may be mentioned here that Seng was a prominent figure, who sought to sign the Naga Peace accord.
According to reports, the exchange of fire between security forces and the militant lasted for at least five minutes. A security patrol was on a routine area domination procedure in the area when the militant initiated the firing. Following which the security forces retaliated and the NSCN (K) cadre was killed.
However, it was suspected that he was actually eliminated by the rival NSCN (IM) group in the name of the Indian Army. His death is likely to trigger an escalatory violence that could result in more chaos in the Naga peace process.
An Assam Rifles spokesman said that a huge quantity of arms and ammunition has also been recovered from the slain militant.
