To ensure the safety of public, the Guwahati Traffic Police has imposed several restrictions on all kinds of vehicles in the city for the convenience of Durga Puja pandal hoppers. While all goods vehicles have been restricted from entering the city area from 1 PM to 4 PM, restrictions have been imposed on private and passenger vehicles in Dispur, Paltan Bazar, Panbazar, Jalukbari, Bharalumukh, Basistha, Chandmari, and Geetanagar localities, all of which areas record high footfall during the puja.
Puja committees have been asked to provide volunteers to help with traffic arrangements. Restrictions have also been imposed on the movements of city buses as well as on parking of private vehicles across the city during the puja season.
“Parking of vehicles will not be allowed up to 500 metres from puja pandals. Roadside parking shall be strictly prohibited on MG Road, B Baruah Road, GNB Road, Tayabullah Road and on the stretch of GS Road from Lachitnagar Point to Janata Hotel Point,” a traffic police advisory said.
Parking on the side of the road will be allowed in other areas if it does not hamper traffic. Traffic police have also issued regulations for the immersion of the idols on October 8.
