In the name of Hajj Yatra, a travel agency looted several crore rupees from Assam pilgrims and vanished. According to reports, the company cheated 95 Assam Hajj pilgrims.
The incident came to light after the tickets and visas of the pilgrims provided by the agency were found to be fake at the Kolkata Airport. The agency, named Alhabibi Tour and Travels, collected Rs. 4.25 lakh from the pilgrims from Assam.
“We saved money for this religious duty for the last 10-12 years. Since one month we have been preparing for the Yatra. Our relatives and friends asked us to pray for them. Now what should we say to them?” said a pilgrim from Assam.
Meanwhile, Assam Assembly deputy speaker and Assam Hajj Committee vice president Aminul Haque Laskar immediately rushed to Kolkata following the incident. However, uncertainties over the journey of the pilgrims have not ended yet.
The police have started investigation. The Hajj is an annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, the most holy city for the Muslims.
