Tripura Central University Vice Chancellor Vijaykumar Laxmikantrao Dharurkar stepped down on Saturday.
The development comes a day after a sting operation by a local television channel in Agartala showed him accepting a bribe from a contractor in Kolkata.
University sources told that the VC resigned on Saturday and the senior-most professor of the university, Sangram Sinha, former dean of the Science Faculty, has taken over as the acting VC of the university.
The channel claimed that they had collected more documents related to the vice chancellor taking bribes, which would be telecast in a phased manner. The sting operation was telecast on Friday.
On September 6, Registrar (U/C) Tripura University issued a press release stating Tripura Central University administration has learnt that a video showing the Vice Chancellor of the University is being circulated in the public domain.
