Two-day BJP National Executive Meeting begins, Citizenship Amendment Bill discussed

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Executive Meeting began on Saturday with President Amit Shah formally inaugurated the two-day National Executive meeting of the party, starting off with the national office bearers' meet.

Shah delivered the inaugural address on the first day, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver the valedictory address on Sunday in the presence of top party leaders.

The issue of NRC was also able to clinch a part of Amit Shah's speech. In his speech, Shah supported the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016, said Defence Minister N Sitharaman while addressing the press.

This is the first National Executive meeting of the party after the death of former prime minister and BJP stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Shah mourned the absence of late former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who was one of its founding members, in the first executive meeting after his death, Shah said that the void he left could never be filled.

The upcoming assembly elections and general elections of 2019 are expected to be the main agenda of the meeting. Apart from that, topical issues were also discussed at the meeting.
