ULFA Grenade attack on Security forces, 11 injured

At least eleven persons were injured, two of them critically, as suspected ULFA members threw a grenade in front of Guwahati Central Shopping Mall this evening at 2000 hours.

All the injured were admitted in Guwahati Medical College Hospital. Amongst them two were CRPF jawans, a father-daughter and a pedestrian.

Senior police official investigating the spot said that the security check post in front of the Mall was targeted.

The powerful blast triggered massive traffic jam as the area was bursting with evening activity and there were hundreds of shopping goers.

The GMCH authorities informed that all the injured had major splinters but they were out of danger and denied rumours that one person succumbed to the injuries.

The ULFA had called up some media houses and owned responsibility but the veracity of the same had not been independently confirmed yet.

This is the first such attack by the suspected ULFA in last two years. The police had inputs of some attack and that was why several rounds of security review meeting also took place but the terrorists directly hurled the grenade on the security man manning the check post in front of the Guwahati central Mall.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal quickly review the matter and condemned the incident and vowed to find out the culprits.
