Dhubri Forest Department rescued two smuggled elephants while they were being transported to Jamnagar in Gujarat from Arunachal Pradesh via Assam.
A truck carrying two elephants was crossing the Chagolia gate in Assam on Monday and was seized in the Teesta area of West Bengal by the forest officials in a joint operation by West Bengal police and their Forest Department.
As per sources, the two elephants were being transferred from Banderdewa in Arunachal Pradesh in a truck bearing registered number NL-02K-4034.
The elephants were in safe custody at Gorumara National Park and after completion of all official procedures were the elephants were brought back by the Assam Forest Department. The elephants are now in Manas National Park.
An investigation is underway.
