For the first time in Assam, the fee structure in state's 300 provincialized colleges will be uniform for the ensuing academic session.
Admissions to various degree courses for the upcoming academic session began on Monday.
It may be mentioned here that the Assam higher education directorate will enforce the revised structure at the undergraduate level.
Even though the colleges are implementing the revised structure for degree courses, it won't be implemented for the higher secondary level as admissions to the higher secondary courses have already been completed.
Authorities have said that the decision (to implement a uniform fee structure) was taken after complaints about colleges charging a lot of fees was reported in large numbers in 2018.
Notably, as of now the consolidated statement for uniform fee structure has set a higher ceiling college in Kamrup (Metropolitan) district than for those in smaller towns.
In Kamrup (Metropolitan), the maximum annual fees that a college can charge for Science (major) is Rs 6820 and for science (general) is Rs 6040.
For arts, colleges in the district can charge Rs 5840 and for commerce, they can charge Rs 5620.
In the other urban areas, the colleges can charge Rs 6520 for science (major), Rs 6040 for science (general), Rs 5540 for arts and Rs 5320 for commerce.
In the rural areas, colleges can charge Rs 5920 for science (major), Rs 5140 for science (general), Rs 4940 for arts and Rs 4720 for commerce.
