Former Assam Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta on Friday said that the Union Budget 2019-20 has neglected the needs of the people of Assam as well as Northeast. He further termed the Union Budget as a disappointment for people of Assam.
“There was nothing new for the people of Assam,” Mahanta said. He also said that there were no mention of Assam flood and erosion in Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s speech. “There was nothing to solve the flood and erosion problem of Assam,” said the Ex-CM.
He also said that the Finance Minister has mentioned about the Ganga and other rivers of the country, however, she did not mention anything about mighty Brahmaputra. “The Union Budget has simply neglected the people of Assam,” said Mahanta.
Further, reacting to Finance Minister’s speech that began with a quote from Kautilya’s ‘arthshastra’, Mahanta said that there was no reflection of Kautilya’s theoretical principles in Sitharaman’s budget.
