Union Budget Session Begins  Today

The Budget Session of Parliament will commence onFriday which will be addressed by President Ram Nath Kovind to the jointsitting of two Houses of Parliament.

President Kovind will deliver a speech in the CentralHall of Parliament at 11 am. Vice President Venkaiah Naidu will also chair ameeting of floor leaders of Rajya Sabha at his residence today.

The government on January 31 will release the EconomicSurvey for 2019-2020 just a day before Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharamanpresents Union Budget 2020-21 on February 1.

All eyes will be on the Economic Survey for thecurrent fiscal, which is a detailed report card on the economic performancethroughout the year.

The Economic Survey, which is an annual document ofthe finance ministry, reviews economic progress and issues over the past 12months and essentially details the performance of major developmental schemesintroduced by the government. It also highlights the performance of importantgovernment policies and their impact.

The Union Budget will be presented on Saturday. Thefirst phase of the session will conclude on February 11, while the second partof the session will begin from March 2 and end on April 3.

The Bharatiya Janata Party Executive Committee meetingwill be held in Parliament Library at 2 pm, while the National DemocraticAlliance (NDA) meeting is expected in Parliament Library at 3:30 pm today.

An all-party meeting called by Parliamentary AffairsMinister Prahlad Joshi was held on Thursday in Parliament ahead of the BudgetSession. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also attended the meeting along withother Union Ministers, namely, Rajnath Singh, Thawar Chand Gehlot, ArjunMeghwal, V Muraleedharan, and others.

The Prime Minister said that the government was openfor discussion on all issues during the Budget Session of Parliament and agreedwith the demand of MPs that there should be a discussion on economic issues.

In his remarks at the all-party meeting on the eve ofthe Budget Session, he welcomed suggestions of most members that the sessionshould focus on the prevailing economic situation in the country.

Modi said that most of the members have asked for a discussion on the economic situation concerning the country. I welcome this and we need to discuss the economic issues as suggested by you all, Modi said.

Modi urged members to see how the country can gainfrom the prevailing global economic scenario.
