Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar was ruled out of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup on Monday due to a toe injury. Shankar is likely to be replaced by Karnataka opener Mayank Agarwal.
“Vijay Shankar once again got hit on the toe by a Jasprit Bumrah delivery. His situation is not great and he won’t be able to take part in the tournament. He is going back home,” a BCCI official quoted as saying by PTI.
The management of team India asked for Mayank Agarwal as replacement. “He is an opener and also it might give KL Rahul a chance to get back to the No.4 position in case Rishabh Pant fails in the next two games,” the BCCI officials added.
It may be mentioned here that Mayank Agarwal had made Test debut against Australia last year but has not yet played in the ODI format. However, the ICC’s tournament technical committee has to approve Agarwal’s name.
India lost their previous match to England by 31 runs in Birmingham on Sunday and will take on Bangladesh at the same venue on Tuesday.
