Eastern India to celebrate Vishwakarma Puja today
Vishwakarma Puja is a celebration honoring the dive architect Vishwakarma, Vishwakarma Puja or Vishwakarma Jayanti falls on ‘Kanya Sankranti’ of Hindu calendar.
This year Kanya Sankranti Punya Kala is between 01:19 PM and 06:24 PM, and Kanya Sankranti Maha Punya Kala is between 01:19 PM and 03:22 PM, according to Drik Panchang. The muhurat of the Vishwakarma Puja Sankranti moment on September 17 falls on 1:19 pm.
It is an occasion to worship the tools important for work and focus on their maintenance so that they continue to be the means of livelihood. Whether a writer or a mechanic, each has a tool, computer, pen and machines which need to be taken care of. Vishwakarma Puja was observed in all industrial units, schools, and offices of Haridwar district on Monday remembering the divine architect and engineer Vishwakarma. He is considered as the first engineer in the universe.
Along with the other states of the country, Assam and entire Northeast will also celebrate the Vishwakarma puja on September 18.
It is said that Lord Vishwakarma is the architect-engineer of the abodes of gods –Indrapuri, Yampuri, Varunpuri, Kuberpuri, Pandavpuri, Sudamapuri and Shivanandapuri among others. The vehicles and articles used by the Devas like Pushpak Viman were also made by Vishwakarma.
Apart from this the designer earrings worn by the rain God Indra, the Sudarshan Chakra of Lord Vishnu, the trident of Shiva were also crafted by the hands of Vishwakarma. He is hailed as the constructor of ‘Maya Nagri Dwarika’ in Gujarat where Lord Krishna ruled.
Notably, reference of Vishwakarma also comes in the Vedas especially Rig Veda and is credited with Sthapatya Veda, the science of mechanics and architecture.
According to mythic tales, Lord Vishwakarma designed the Vajra, the sacred weapon of Lord Indra, from the bones of sage Dadhichi and also the Agnayestra. Even Lord Krishna’s Sudarshan Chakra was created by Lord Vishwakarma.
