‘We’ll leave no stone unturned’: City Police responds to arrest of Garga Chatterjee

Guwahati Police Commissioner Munna Prasad Gupta on Tuesday said stern action will be taken against Kolkata-based political commentator Garga Chatterjee for making derogatory comments about the first Ahom king Chaolung Sukaphaa and Ahom community.

This comes after a wide outrage over the incident prompted the Police department and the state government to take strict measures. On Tuesday, CP Gupta said that it will leave no stone unturned to ensure 'legal punishment' to the accused person.

It may be mentioned that the Assam Police team had to return empty-handed on Tuesday after it failed to find him after three long days.

"The Police department has taken a serious note of the incident. Stern action will be taken against Chatterjee," Gupta said in a statement.

"Next time, we will make special legal arrangements to arrest him", he said.

Kolkata Police is not cooperating with Assam Police to arrest and bring Garga Chatterjee of West Bengal to Assam, Gupta added.

The three-member team was led by DCP (Crime) Barun Purkayastha.

Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal directed Guwahati Police Commissioner to arrest and bring Garga Chatterjee of West Bengal to Assam for posting offensive remarks on social media about Swargadeo Chaolung Sukaphaa and Ahom community.
