Wild Elephant Kills Man in Udalguri

A wild elephant trampled a 62-year old man to death in Bholatar village of Udalguri district in the early morning of Saturday.

The incident took place when the deceased Ram Bahadur Gautam, along with some villagers had gone to chase away a wild elephant that had entered their paddy fields.

According to villagers, the elephant was wreaking havoc in the area since few days and suspected that it must have been isolated from the herd of elephants.

The victim was rushed to Tangla CHC where he was declared dead.

The villagers alleged that the forest department never comes on patrolling in the village and that it has failed to tackle the menace. They said that it is not the first time that the elephant has created havoc in the area but they face the same problem frequently and also many people have lost their lives due to the terror of elephant.

According to reports, 19 people have lost their lives so far this year in the human-elephant conflict.
