Winter session of Assam Assembly stars today

The seven-day winter session of the Assam Assembly will begin tomorrow. The proceedings of the first day of the session include Oath of Affirmation by the newly elected members and Obituary References.

This would be followed by the Question Hour and the Speaker announcing the report of the Business Advisory Committee settling the business for the winter session of the Assembly. This will be followed by the Speaker announcing the names of the members constituting the panel of chairmen under Rule 9(1) of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business.

Laying of ordinances, laying of reports, rules etc, presentation of reports of various assembly committees will be followed thereafter. This will be followed by motion for election of members to various government committees, boards etc, presentation of the list of supplementary demand for grants and supplementary appropriation for the year 2019-2020, the introduction of government bills, and obituary references.

The second day that is on November 29, there will be question hour and private member’s business with bills, resolutions, special motion and motions.

The third day on November 30 will have government business starting with Question Hour, followed by voting and passing of supplementary demand and supplementary appropriation for 2019-2020, followed by introduction, consideration and passing of Assam Appropriation Bill, 2019.

The next sitting will be held on December 3 with question hour, member’s hour and private member’s business with bills, resolutions, special motion and motions.

On December 4 the Assembly will have government business with question hour followed by consideration and passing of government bills and any other government business remaining unfinished.

On December 5, there will be government business with Speaker’s initiative.

A discussion to commemorate the 150 years of birth anniversary of Nation Mahatma Gandhi will be held on the last day of the session on December 6, a statement from the assembly secretariat said.
