This year, Assam’s tallest effigy of demon king Ravan will be burnt in South Kamrup’s Mirza on the eve of Dussehra.
“At 111-feet, it is the tallest effigy of Ravan in the entire State,” claimed a member of Friends’ Club.
The Ravan will burst into flames after getting hit by the arrows on his stomach and other body parts informed the member. “In Ramayan, Lord Ram had fired 31 arrows simultaneously to kill Ravan. Though all the arrows hit Ravan, the one which strikes him in his naval killed him,” the member.
90 percent of the effigy is completed as a team of 20 artistes are currently constructing it. At a cost of Rs. 9 lakh, the effigy is being constructed by 600 bamboos and 5000 meters of cloths.
“We want the triumph of good over evil forces in the State. We want all youths of the State to be united to defeat all evil forces,” added the member of the organising committee.
