12 girls’ schools attacked in Pakistan

At least 12 girls' schools were attacked by unidentified men on late Thursday night in Chilas town in Diamer district near Gilgit.

Reportedly, explosions were set off in two schools, as others were set on fire.

According to the district administration, the schools that were attacked were under construction. The officials have ensured that they are taking adequate measures to safeguard the school and students.

The incident has triggered a protest among local residents who seek safety for educational institutions, which are frequently attacked by militants.

Police has also reportedly started a search operation to arrest the people responsible.

Several girls' schools have been targeted previously in the area. In December 2011, two girls' schools were damaged in low-intensity explosions in Chilas.
