AASU Demands Immediate Completion of NRPP

The All Assam Students' Union (AASU), Namrup unit has a staged 100 hours hunger strike in front of Namrup Thermal Power Station demanding completion of work of Namrup Replacement Power Project (NRPP) and also demanded an investigation on the incongruity in the construction work.

It may be mentioned that in 2009, former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi hadinaugurated the 100 MW NRPP project with an estimated cost of Rs. 900 crores in2009 and said that the project will be completed by 2012. But it is unfortunatethat the company who has taken the project Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL)has not yet completed the project even after 10 years and has misused themoney.

Although the government has announced two dates to inaugurate theproject but still it has not yet done.

AASU, therefore, observed a 100-hour hunger strike demanding immediate completion of the project and also threatened that if the government won't accept their demand then they will take programmes like blocking of electricity in Namrup.
