Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Thursday organised a massive 'Shankhnaad' rally in Bongaigaon to protest against the much debated Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

Most of the top AGP leaders were present in the rally including former Assam Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, Assam cabinet ministers Atul Bora, Phani Bhushan Choudhury, Keshab Mahanta among others.

On the occasion, former CM and senior leader of AGP P.K Mahanta said, "This government has taken a lot steps that threatens and goes against the interest of indigenous people of Assam. Through this rally, we oppose the Bill and ask people of Assam to come together in opposing the Bill."

President of AGP Atul Bora said, "This is not to reach out to people of Assam but rather make our voices heard to the Central government in Delhi. And we have also decided that we will stay in the government and be a part of it to keep fighting for the interest of the people of Assam."
