Puri: Cyclone Fani makes landfall

Cyclone Fani which has turned to an extremely severe cyclonic storm has made landfall at the Odisha coast south of Puri, said India Meteorological Department (IMD).

According to reports, the storm is likely to move North-Northeastwards and cross the Odisha coast between Gopalpur and Chandbali near Puri.

IMD informed that Fani was stationed about 80 km south-southwest of Puri and 65 km southwest of Gopalpur Odisha coast.

Further, the cyclonic storm is likely to cross Odisha coast with a maximum sustained wind speed of 175-185 kmph gusting to 200 kmph. Gopalpur and Puri have recorded wind flow of 90 to 110 km/h.

It may be noted that the area is witnessing heavy rainfall and any places such as Ganjam, Gajapati, Khurda, Puri and  Jagatsinghpur districts received heavy downpour last night.
