Pratidin Bureau

A number of conscious Assamese singers on Tuesday took to street in seeking scrapping of controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

The singers staged a sit-in protest at Moran and tied black cloths around their mouths in protest against the Bill.

They sung Bhupen Hazarika's one of the popular songs 'Aah! Aah! Ulai Aah', 'Buku Hom Hom Kore' and many songs based on Assamese regionalism during the protest.

Singers like Bipin Chowdang, Neel Akash, Kusum Kailash,  Madab Ranjan, Debajit Borah and others took part in the sit-in protest.

Speaking at the protest the singers said that, if timely action is not taken, the Assamese people would become a minority in their own land.
