With an aim to spread awareness on global climate change and environmental pollution, Nijora Phukan, hailing from Desangpani village located under Mahmora constituency of Charaideo district, has planned something extra and decided to take up a mission called 'people for tree'.

She decided to pursue this in a unique way, by walking from the historic Charaideo Maidam to the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. Phukan has started her journey on December 1. Phukan had completed her M.Phil from JNU, New Delhi.

While interacting with the media, Phukan said, "The change in weather patterns and global climate change and environmental pollution is alarming. I was worried about the future and that our generation is in danger. It is high time we need to make general people aware of its consequences. We humans need to save the planet."

"I feel it is tremendously significant for everyone to be aware of environmental degradation. During this awareness programme, I will reach out to the masses. I urge the public to come and join me in this campaign so that we can jointly voice the concerns," she added.
