Assam Government To Approach CBI For Probing Syndicates

Syndicates in Assam have been a never-ending problem and in a recent case, Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi linked Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal with coal syndicate.

Inconnection with the rising syndicates in Assam, the state government will soonapproach Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) once again for taking up theinvestigation, said Assam Industry and Commerce Minister Chandra MohanPatowary.

Addressing apress conference on Monday, Patowary said that in Assam, there is no syndicate now.Reacting to the comment of Pradyut Bordoloi who says that Sonowal is runningthe coal syndicate, Patowary said, "The Congress is frustrated and so they aretrying to politicize the issue. The BJP-led government in Assam had ordered aCBI probe into the allegations of syndicate just two months after takingcharge. The government has also requested the CBI to take up the investigationregarding the syndicate."

Patowaryfurther stated that the BJP-led government had seized 300 trucks carryingillegal coal and arrested 100 people for their involvement in the illegal tradeof coal in the year 2018-19. He also said that the government has seized 450cattle carrying vehicles and arrested 55 people in the month of June itself.

Patowaryalso challenged Bordoloi to answer regarding the irregularities during theCongress tenure where seven lakh ghost children were recovered as beneficiariesof the scheme under the social welfare department.
