The Assam police today seized huge quantities of drugs in Hailakandi and Nagaon districts.

Continuing their war on drugs, the police is making all out efforts to curb the menace of drug peddling in the state.

The police conducted a search operation at Gastola area in Sohortoli in Hailakandi and recovered 3 gms of drugs.

The police team also apprehended four drug peddlers from the spot.

They have been identified as Fotik Uddin Majhar Bhuyan, Nazrul Islam Laskar, Anam Uddin Mazumdar and Hannan Uddin Lashkar.

Meanwhile, the police conducted raid at Bajiagaon in Samuguri in Nagaon and seized a large quantity of drugs.

Two youths were arrested in this connection.

They have been identified as Abdul Barek and Saidul Islam.

Locals in Samaguri have been complaining about drug trafficking in the area for a long time now.

On February 8, a huge amount of drugs and psychotropic substances were destroyed by the Kokrajhar police during a raid conducted at the Chandmari ghat.

Around 1,477 kg of ganja, 1.28 kg of heroin, and 33 packets of tablets suspected to be psychotropic drugs were destroyed bypolice officials.

On the same day, a huge consignment of heroin concealed in 15 soap cases was seized from Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, while two persons including a woman were arrested.

Drugs worth around Rs 500 crore have been seized in Assam in the last six to seven months.

While Assam has clearly become a hotbed for drug trafficking and consumption, the government and the police have been trying to curb the menace.
