Bhupen Hazarika Conferred with ‘Bharat Ratna’

One of the renowned music maestro's of Assam, Bhupen Hazarika has been posthumously awarded the 'Bharat Ratna', by President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.

Tej Hazarika, the son of the late singer-composer has received the country's highest civilian honour on behalf of Bhupen Hazarika's family.

Representing the Assam Government- Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture and Food Processing Atul Bora and the state's BJP MLAs attended the event. Manisha Hazarika, Dawor Hazarika and Tej Hazarika have also attended the award ceremony.

Theannouncement was made through an official Rashtrapati Bhavan statement inJanuary 2019.

The country's highest civilian honour has also been bestowed on former President of India Pranab Mukherjee and social activist Nanaji Deshmukh.
