Court exempts Zubeen from jail-term

Pratidin Bureau

In a major relief to Assam heart-throb Zubeen Garg, the District and Sessions Judge's court of Kamrup (Metro) on Friday reducedthe quantum of punishment to the singer and exempted him from jail term pertainingto a 2013 case of slapping a minor.

As per sources, the court exempted the quantum of punishment on the ground that Zubeen will not break any law in next two years. Earlier, he was sentenced three months rigorous imprisonment in the case. However, the court increased the amount of fine to Rs. 20,000.

Zubeen had allegedly slapped the son of senior advocate Arup Borbora, for smoking in public. Borbora had lodged an FIR with the police following the incident. A day later Borbora again filed another FIR complaining that the singer had revealed the name of the victim in some local TV news channels, which is against the laws that protect the rights of the child.
