CUSU Alleges Irregularities in Appointment Procedure

Pratidin Bureau

The former General Secretary of Cotton University Students Union (CUSU) and present members of the union has alleged that the university authorities have done massive irregularities in the appointment procedure of administrative officer.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, the students alleged that the authorities have called for an interview on August 3 for the post of administrative officer although an interview was held earlier. It has been alleged that the interview has been called in order to provide the job to the son-in-law of the Vice-Chancellor of the university.

The CUSU further alleged that 150 posts are lying vacant for several years and that the authority has also published an advertisement to fill up the vacant posts after which many teachers who are residing outside the state have shown their willingness to apply for the posts but the chancellor stopped the teachers from coming back to Assam saying that they will not be able to provide adequate infrastructure. "If the infrastructure is really bad then the authorities should improve the infrastructure rather than to stop them from coming back to Assam to join as the faculty of the university," said the GS.

The union further informed that in 2016, the university (the thenCotton College) had also published an advertisement for 27 departmental postsbut till date no interview and examination has been conducted.

The students further said that the university wants to introduce thesubject of artificial intelligence which they supported but the studentsopposed that they cannot introduce the subject by hampering the MCA and BCAcourse.

The union further alleged that the university is lacking fromlaboratory, computer laboratory, classroom, hostel etc. but the authoritiesinstead of solving such problems is now trying to appoint officials of theirown choice.
