‘Declared Foreigner’ prompts clash between Gauhati high court & NRC authorities

Pratidin Bureau

It is not only the BJP that has raised a clamour over the NRC list which has punched the biggest hole in its political sling that propelled the party to power in Assam.

The Gauhati high court on Thursday had sought information from the NRC authority regarding a case relating to 'Inclusion of foreigners in Final NRC list'. In its order, the court says Despite being declared as a foreigner, as against ARN: 101830502032209400628, the name of Phulijan Nessa has been entered in the National Register of Citizens.

The case was listed for next hearing on November 5.

Meanwhile, the NRC authority made an announcement on its Facebook handle following the order of Gauhati high court, the statement reads as follows; Some sections of the media have reported about inclusion in Final NRC of a declared foreigner, namely, Phulijan Nessa of Samaguri. It is informed that the name of said Phulijan Nessa has not been included in Final NRC.

The people in the state are extremely anxious over the speculation that a large number of illegal foreigners' names were included in the final NRC list and those of indigenous people were excluded.
