Ex-school principal brutally murdered in Silchar

Pratidin Bureau

Samarendra Bhattacharjee, a former principal of Narsing Higher Secondary School in Silchar, was brutally murdered on midnight of Saturday at his residence on Shamaprasad Road.

The incident occurred at around 12 midnight when his caretaker, Sanjay Acharjee (52), struck him several times with a machete following an argument.

He was pronounced dead at around 2:15 in the morning on Saturday by Silchar Medical College and Hospital doctors.

When arrested, Acharjee confessed to his crimes of killing Bhattacharjee.

Acharjee ran a 'pan' shop by the day on Samarendra Bhattacharjee's property at Central Road. The argument took place following days of repeated nagging and taunts by the ex-principal who kept on asking Acharjee to shut down the pan shop every day, which was his only source of income for his family with two kids.

Bhattacharjee was the Vice President of District Sports Association and was presently serving as the President of India Club, Silchar's oldest club. He was also the President of School Management Committee, post his retirement.
