Polytechnic lecturers stage indefinite strike

Lecturers of 11 Polytechnics in Assam have launched an indefinite strike starting this morning.

Golaghat Polytechnic's lecturers have boycotted classes and sat in an indefinite strike. The lecturers have basically called the strike demanding payment of their salary which has been due for months.

They havealso raised issues such as regularisation of their salary as per the AICTEnorms, promotion and few others in their protest.

This standof the lecturers has spread a sense of chaos among the students of theinstitution.

Simultaneously,lecturers of Dhemaji Polytechnic have also launched indefinite hunger strike boycottingclasses from today.

These protestorshave called the strike demanding their salary which has been pending since 14months and regularisation of their jobs.

It may benoted that in this institution, other than the principal no employee has apermanent job. The agitation is also due to lack of proper infrastructure,residential facilities both for teachers as well as students. There is also alack of facilitators in the institution. In a technical institution as such,there is no electricity supply in the workshop.

Lecturersof Lakhimpur Polytechnic have also resorted to such strike.
