Good News! New Bill to protect Satras from encroachment

In a bid to free Satra lands from illegal encroachers, the Stategovernment has drafted a Bill (Assam Land and Revenue Regulation, 1886) whichis to be introduced in the coming Assembly session scheduled to start from July18.

The State Revenue Department has drafted the 'Assam Land and Revenue Regulation Amendment Bill-2019' to bring in the necessary amendments to the age-old 'Assam Land and Revenue Regulation-1886'. The new Bill will give power to the Deputy Commissioners to make the lands of specified religious and charitable institutions encroachment-free.

Age-old 'Assam Land and revenue Regulation-1886' does not haveany section to authorize any authority to carry out eviction drives of illegaloccupants on land belonging to various religious bodies or charitableinstitutions.
