GU’s mass comm dept hosts ‘Jonaki’ film festival

The Department of Communication and Journalism of the Gauhati University for the very first time has organised a students film festival. Named 'Jonaki', the film fest kick started at the Phanidhar Dutta Hall on Thursday.

The theme of the event is set to 'Inspiring roots'., which is a package of film screening, interactive sessions, workshops on film making and much more.

As many as 13 films will be screened during the two-day festival. The inaugural film was My Father's Letter, a Manipuri film directed by Kangba Lavejoy which was followed by a Naga film named Nana – A Tale of us, directed by Tiakumzuk Aier.

Today, the line up of the films are Silingkhar, Dooronir Nirola Poja, Li: Len, Sonar Boron Pakhi, Alifa and Nodi Mathu Boi. A workshop on Scriptwriting by Nabajyoti Bora and Film Criticism by Manoj Borpujari are also scheduled for the day.

The objective of the film festival is to encourage and celebrate film making which will inspire young people. The festival is expected to promote a film culture among the students through regional films.
