MLA Rupjyoti takes jibe at Parimal Suklabaidya

Pratidin Bureau

The mass death incident in Assam owing to consumption of local hooch has been condemned strongly and opposition parties have voiced their take on the situation.

Alleging that laxity on the part of the Assam government led to the large number of deaths after consumption of hooch, Congress MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi on Tuesday has demanded Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya to resign. MLA Kurmi critiqued govt's failure on illegal hooch trafficking in the state.

"The authorities concerned must be held accountable for the ill-fated incident and strict action must be taken against the guilty excise officers, who backed the lali-gur traders. Government has no control over the excise department. That's why, such incident has occurred. Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya should take moral responsibility of the incident and resign.- he added.

"The government has not taken the outrageous incident seriously. The CM should discharge Parimal Suklabaidya from his portfolio immediately."
