NRC hearing | Congress Seeks conveyance for people

Pratidin Bureau

The members of the Assam Congress Legislature Party haveurged NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela to make arrangements regarding conveyanceand security for attending NRC hearings.

A group of MLA apprised that in several LACs, notably Chenga, Barpeta, Goalpara West, Chaygaon and Boko, numerous people have been issued notices as late as 3rd and 4th August and asked to attend NRC related hearings on August 5 in far-off places like Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji.

The MLAs emphasized that most of these people do not ownvehicles and it is difficult for them to find adequate public transportationfacilities at such short notice. Moreover, most of them are wary of likelyattempts by vested interests to waylay them en route to the venues of hearingand take away the precious documents which will enable them to prove theircitizenship.

Therefore, the members of the Assam Congress Legislature Party requested Prateek Hajela, State Coordinator, NRC to instruct the Deputy Commissioners concerned to requisition adequate numbers of buses etc. to transport these hapless people to and from the venues of hearing. Further they requested to instruct the district administrations concerned to arrange for security personal to accompany the vehicles in question.
