Tea labourers’ sudden death stirs sensation in Doom Dooma

The suddendeath of three female tea labourers on Thursday has stirred sensation in the entireregion of Bordubi tea estate in Doom Dooma.

Accordingto reports, four women labourers, namely, Filmiya Sai Murum (45), SarothiKhariya (44), Dirang Sai Murum (65) and Agatha Remis (35), collapsed whileplucking tea leaves. The four women although were rushed to the Bordubi TeaEstate Hospital, but due to deteriorating health conditions they were taken toa private hospital in Doom Doom's Rupai.

However,Filmiya, Sarothi and Dirang died at the hospital while Agatha had beencritically ill.

Meanwhile,the survivor, Agatha, who is improving now, has informed Pratidin Time thatafter finishing the task of plucking leaves, all the four women had lunch with homemadecucumber, pumpkin, fern and rice; but the cucumber was extremely bitter. It wasafter some time that all the four labourers collapsed, informed the survivor.

Althoughthe incident has been alleged to have taken place due to food poisoning,however, no concrete proof has come to light till now.

DoomDooma MLA Durga Bhumij had visited the families of the victims to take stock ofthe situation. The MLA has urged the government of Assam to order a high levelinquiry into the matter and to provide compensation to the families of thethree dead labourers.
