Delhi Fire: At least 6 Killed, 16 Injured

Sixpeople, including two children were killed while 16 others were injured in the massivefire that broke out on early Tuesday at a residential building in Zakir Nagarof Southeast Delhi.

Accordingto Chief Fire officer of Delhi Fire Services, Atul Garg, while two of thevictims were charred to death, others died of asphyxiation from the smoke.

Gargfurther informed that some of the occupants of the building also jumped fromthe building to save themselves who were injured in the process. He alsoinformed that out of the 16 injured, at least seven are in serious conditionand have been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Holy FamilyHospital.

Theinjured include two firefighters, said the fire officer.

Theofficer stated that prima facie it looked like the fire broke out in theelectric metre board of the building that has a stilt parking and four floors. Duringthe fire, there were at least 24 residents in the building.

Thefirefighters rescued at least 20 people, many of them who were injured from theblaze. During the rescue operation, they found two residents charred to deathand many lying unconscious.

Moreover,police are in the process of registering a first information report (FIR).

Theblaze also gutted seven cars and eight motorcycles.
