Girish Chandra Murmu sworn in as CAG

Girish Chandra Murmu on Saturday took oath as the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath of office and secrecy to CAG-designate GC Murmu. Murmu was the former Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and stepped down from the chair last week.

"By virtue of the power vested in him by clause 1 of article 148 of the Constitution of India, the President has been pleased to appoint Shri Girish Chandra Murmu to be the Comptroller and Auditor General of India with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office," the finance ministry notification signed by joint secretary Rajiv Kumar Mishra read.

Murmu took charge as the first L-G of Jammu and Kashmir on October 31, 2019. He was also the expenditure secretary in the Ministry of Finance. He was also moved to the chief minister's office as principal secretary to Anandiben Patel after Narendra Modi took charge as the prime minister in the year 2014. Murmu is from the IAS batch of 1995 and is the first Odia to become the CAG of India.
