Google Honours Vikram Sarabhai on 100th Birth Anniversary

Google dedicated its doodle honouring Vikram Sarabhai on his centenary birth anniversary on Monday.

According to report, the doodle illustration has been created bya Mumbai based artist Pavan Rajurkar.

Sarabhai, who is considered as the Father of the Indian Spaceprogramme established the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

Born in August 12, 1919 at Ahmedabad, Sarabhai attended GujaratCollege before earning his doctorate from Cambridge University.

He founded the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) in Ahmedabad on November 11, 1947 at the age of 28.

Sarabhai was instrumental in convincing the then Indiangovernment of the importance of a space programme and his endeavours weresupported by Dr. Homi Bhabha who is considered as the Father of India's nuclearscience programme.

It was Sarabhai's tireless efforts in the field of spaceprogrammes that India resulted in the launch of India's first satellite 'Aryabhata'in the year 1975, five years after his death in 1971.
