Modi Biopic: DMK, NSUI ask EC to defer release

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party has urged the Election Commission (EC) to defer the release of the film PM Narendra Modi. According to DMK, the biopic on the current Prime Minister on India, will impact election promotions, which is set to release on April 5, a week before the start of the general elections.

In a letter to district election officer, DMK's leader from Pollachi area, P Arasu Bupathi sought a ban on the movie till May 19. The letter to the election officer also stated, "Cinema is a major source of advertisement and the movie depicted the PM's current political lifestyle which could impact the outcome of the elections."

Earlier, NSUI had requested the EC to ban the movie. The NSUI wrote a letter demanding a ban 48 hours prior to the beginning of voting.
