Heavy rains overnight in several parts of Mumbaicaused water-logging triggering traffic disruptions and train delays onWednesday morning. The civic authorities have declared a holiday in schools inthe city amid a heavy rain warning.

The weather office in the city sounded an orangealert- likelihood of heavy to very heavy rain on Tuesday for the next two days.

In a tweet on Wednesday by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation it said, "In wake of IMD's warning of heavy rainfall for the rest of the day too, the schools shall remain closed today. The Principals of the schools where students are already in, are requested to take all precautions and ensure that the children are sent back home carefully and safely."

In another post, the civic body advised locals toavoid venturing near the sea of walking in water-logged areas.

Moreover, the Central Railways said that heavy rainsalso laid to delays of trains. In a statement issued by the Central Railways,it said, "Due to heavy rain and poor visibility, main line suburban trains arerunning 10-12 minutes late and harbor line trains running 10 minutes late."

Visuals showed water-logging on rail tracks whichslowed down movement of trains. Western Railways in a tweet said, "As water levelhas reached above 120 mm of tracks at Nallasopara on Up fast lines, few longdistance trains are regulated and suburban are running at restricted speed."

However, no major air traffic disruptions have beenreported so far at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. An airportofficial said that operations are so far normal with minor delays of 10-15minutes.

The downpour is likely to affect the GaneshChaturthi celebrations in the city. The celebrations for the 12-day Hindufestival began yesterday.
