People protest outside Bengaluru’s Town Hall against eclipse-related rituals

A crowd of people had gathered outside Bengaluru's Town Hall on July 27 to promote scientific reason and protest against the bizarre practices followed during eclipses.

The people, who were encouraging the scientific reasons behind the occurrence of an eclipse, also ate food during the eclipse, which is prohibited during an eclipse as per the Hindu tradition.

According to the Hindu tradition, religious practices, cooking and consuming food is prohibited during an eclipse. People are also advised to take a bath before and after a lunar eclipse. The protestors at the Town Hall asked people to stop believing in superstitions related to eclipses.

The world witnessed the longest total lunar eclipse of the 21st century or the Blood Moon on Friday. It began on July 27 and lasted till the early hours of July 28.
